WHY FORESTS ?
Forests have four major roles in climate change: they currently contribute about one-sixth of global carbon emissions when cleared, overused or degraded; they react sensitively to a changing climate; when managed sustainably, they produce woodfuels as a benign alternative to fossil fuels; and finally, they have the potential to absorb about one-tenth of global carbon emissions projected for the first half of this century into their biomass, soils and products and store them.
We are organization of entuziatist and professionals dedicated to sustainability of forests. From working with communities on the ground to advising policy makers, our team is leading the fight to keep Balkan’s forests standing tall. We work with corporations, governments, landowners and communities to protect, restore and manage the Balkan’s forests.
Changes to the things we care about — forests and the people who depend on them — demand that we better understand and these changes.
We need to better understand forests to be able to protect them.
